Knowledge Center on USB key

This idea really appeals to me. Carry something like this on your USB key all the time. Take notes, jot ideas. Visit a colleague, friend, etc and share information. Now the only drawback I’ve found thus far is that while the Roller demo bundle only needs like 24 megs (which fits on my 32 meg USB key, just fine), to run you have to have the Java Developer Kit installed. That, I think, is the rub. I downloaded the kit (100ish megs), but haven’t installed it. I’m looking at this as a truly portable device. Sometime I could take to a public computer even. So the problem is public computers wouldn’t have the JDK installed and you couldn’t install it. And if you visit a friend…they might not want that installed (the installer doesn’t fit on my key anyway).

WikidPad might work, but it isn’t free (yes, it’s only $12, I know). One of the comments on the post is interesting. Loading up a USB key with several applications like blogs, wikis, calendar, etc. Apps on the go. I’ve heard of doing that with an e-mail application, but I don’t remember which one.

This is certainly an interesting idea and worth pursuing a bit.
