I had a chance to hear Ray Ozzie talk about collaboration and webcasting today at Robin Good’s Kolabora event today. Ray talked a little about how Groove is used within the military. A good webcast, if nothing else just to hear Ray pan whiteboards in applications like Groove and Netmeeting as pretty much useless.

Today’s Boston Globe has a major feature story on the front-page of its business section focusing on Groove Networks as ‘accidental contractor’ to the government. Several are quoted within the story, including Glen Johnson of the U.S. State Department. Given this week’s news, this element of the story is particularly interesting.

‘Responsibility for technology is very stovepiped within the government,’ said Glen H. Johnson, director of the State Department’s Iraq Transition Management Staff, which has used Groove to collaborate with Pentagon and Coalition Provisional Authority personnel working to get the new US embassy up and running in Baghdad. ‘As long as all the parties are on Groove, communications can be opened dynamically.’“
